A new adventure each year!

Since 2002, motorcycle adventurers have taken on the annual challenge of riding a small capacity motorcycle vast distances across the Australian landscape.

World heritage rainforests, deserts, open plains, snowy mountains, river crossing, bitumen roads, and occasional dirt roads provides the backdrop to the Postie Bike Challenge event.

We have had riders from Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Singapore, France and the United States. The one thing they all have in common is a great sense of adventure.

The Postie Bike Challenge is an endurance event on a small motorcycle. Are you up for the challenge?

Brisbane – North Queensland Gulf country – Darwin

The Brisbane to Darwin route is special, not just because it was our first adventure in 2002, but because it travels such a variety of landscapes.

Starting from Brisbane we take a wonderfully wooded exit from the city area through subtropical and rainforest-lined roads. Over the next few days the vegetation starts to thin as we head further west and north. Temperatures also start to change for the warmer and the humidity drops. As we approach the gulf country and northern Queensland the heat increases further and the land increasingly arid. Moving into the Northern territory and again further north we start to enter patches of tropical savannah.

Our route will include small towns, remote outposts and roads whilst also navigating some must see experiences along the way. A road trip through central Queensland wouldn’t be complete without a chance to see the Qantas museum* or Stockman’s hall of fame* at Longreach or the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum* at Winton.

On travelling through the Northern Territory we will also get the chance for a swim at Mataranka Springs, known for its warm, spring-fed thermal pools in a landscape of shaded palms.

Brisbane to Darwin is our longest adventure in terms of distance. Over the past 23 years most of the dirt roads from the original route have been covered in bitumen and sealed but this takes nothing away from the adventure of long distances, changing landscapes, remote towns and outposts. We made some minor route changes for the Brisbane – Darwin route for 2026 over previous trips. Basically we removed a deteriorated road that was not small bike friendly and replaced it with another in better condition, if you can call a single lane sealed road with raggedy edges “better”.  This new remote road is near 400km long, no facilities, no fuel and so is also very isolated.

Our destination is Darwin, near 4000km away from our start point. Our final night will include a celebration dinner at a resort hotel. Why not stay on in Darwin and visit some of the tourist sites after completing the Postie Bike Challenge in 2026….

Adventure is in the journey rather than the destination and this is one not to be missed. At times you will ride with a group; sometimes alone; you will feel remote; a million miles away from civilization; there will be long days on the bitumen;  your dirt riding skills might be tested; some days you will travel at full speed (75km/hr!!!) and others will be spent negotiating narrow roads at 30-40km/hr; YOUR MISSION: keep your small motorcycle going for the near 4000 kilometres!

(Note: activities marked with * are an additional expense)

good people. good memories …. stories for a lifetime

  • I just wanted to tell you how much we really enjoyed the trip you organized. It was very well organized and I felt very comfortable at all times that we were in great hands. All three of us had a blast. It was harder than I expected it to be but your hard work and great organization made it a brilliant fun trip. Please thank Andy & Richard (mechanics). They were bloody excellent. It is the first time I have been on such an event where someone who was so capable was able to look after our transport. Normally on a bash it's up to you to fix it if it breaks. Once again, thanks very much and congratulations!

  • L & I would like to thank you all for organizing this wonderful event, it is something we will never forget!

  • I would like to thank you all. The Challenge gave me the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Australia. I like my independence but also love the company of great fun-filled people. The challenge enabled me to feel as though I was discovering the outback single handedly but with the added safety of knowing that there would be support when I needed it. Thanks for your support, kindness and humour which added that little bit more to the whole unexpected experience.

    Trish (NSW)
  • Thank you for the support given to all riders, you guys deserve accolades as much as the riders. It certainly is a fantastic challenge. I feel much better for doing the run, more supple, a little fitter and a little lighter. Something like this really show the extra 25 kilos I am carrying. Thank you very much for the great organization.

  • Thank you and your team for a great adventure - an adventure of a lifetime. It was tough, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I am a far more accomplished rider for having done it. Thanks for the great organization and effort of the team. Let me know when the next one is on - I'll be there!
